True Lilies produce a single stem, often tall, from a bulb. The leaves grow on the stem. Daylilies grow from tubers that produce a large tuft of foliage, from which emerge leafless stems (called scapes).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2022\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2022\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Eyeliner.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2022 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Eyeliner.jpg\" alt=\"Lilium 'Eyeliner'\" width=\"425\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Eyeliner.jpg 425w, https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Eyeliner-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2022\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lilium &#8216;Eyeliner&#8217;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Because Lilies are tall and slender, they fit easily between other plants. Tuck two or three between the crowns of other perennials, toward the back of the border. Lilies can add color where Peonies, Baptisia, and other early summer bloomers have subsided to green. Lilies can also complement summer bloomers. Try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/asiatic-lilies\"><strong>Asiatic Lilies<\/strong><\/a>, which bloom first, with Salvia, Geranium, Centaurea, or Heuchera. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/oriental-orienpet-lilies\"><strong>Orienpet Lilies<\/strong><\/a> (crosses between Trumpet and Oriental Lilies) are the next group to bloom. They enhance Campanulas and all the Daisy-type flowers: Echinacea, Coreopsis, Gaillardia, and Leucanthemum. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/oriental-orienpet-lilies\"><strong>Oriental Lilies<\/strong><\/a>, the last to bloom, are lovely with Phlox, Ornamental Grasses, and Sedum, as well as the long-blooming Echinaceas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2023\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2023\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Montego-Bay.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Montego-Bay.jpg\" alt=\"Lilium 'Montego Bay'\" width=\"425\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Montego-Bay.jpg 425w, https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Lilium-Montego-Bay-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2023\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lilium &#8216;Montego Bay&#8217;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lilies make superb <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/lily-bouquets\"><strong>cut flowers<\/strong><\/a>. In their second year in your garden, the Lilies will achieve their full, often majestic, height.
