Sitting quietly, we\u2019re usually rewarded by sightings of hummingbirds. These tiny dynamos never fail to amaze and delight.<\/p>\n<p>Although hummingbirds visit feeders stocked with sugary nectar, they seem to spend most of their time zipping among their favorite plants. Here are a few to add to your garden planning list for late summer bloom:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1799\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/64637_lonicera_majorWheeler.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1799\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1799 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/64637_lonicera_majorWheeler.jpg\" alt=\"Lonicera sempervirens Major Wheeler\" width=\"425\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/64637_lonicera_majorWheeler.jpg 425w, https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/64637_lonicera_majorWheeler-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lonicera sempervirens Major Wheeler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/64637-product.html\">Lonicera sempervirens<\/a>. Unlike Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera Japonica), our native Trumpet Honeysuckle is not invasive and relatively easy to keep in bounds. Plants are covered with clusters of narrow, trumpet-shaped blooms for most of the summer. Our new favorite is \u2018Major Wheeler\u2019, which has brilliant red-orange blooms. Trumpet Honeysuckle grows best in full sun, but we\u2019ve also seen a magnificent specimen growing on the north side of a house surrounded by Maples. It\u2019s definitely a plant worth trying in partial shade, too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1800\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1800\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/34288_monarda_pinkLace.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1800\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1800 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/34288_monarda_pinkLace.jpg\" alt=\" Monarda didyma Pink Lace\" width=\"425\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/34288_monarda_pinkLace.jpg 425w, https:\/\/wffblog.mi9retail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/34288_monarda_pinkLace-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/> Monarda didyma Pink Lace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/monarda\">Monarda<\/a>. Beebalm is a vigorous grower with intricate red, purple, or pink blooms. It\u2019s a hummingbird magnet. We like to let plants duke it out with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whiteflowerfarm.com\/rudbeckia\">Rudbeckia<\/a> and Ornamental Grasses in a border that\u2019s allowed to look a little wild. Garden Phlox have large, fragrant flower heads in pure white, pinks, purples, and bicolors. Each floret has a narrow throat, pretty much invisible to humans, but enticing to hummingbirds. Plants are long blooming, especially if you can take the time to remove spent blooms and encourage new buds to form.
